Again, thanks to Brian, the man behind the camera, I'm sharing photos from a faire I've never been to. I lamented a bit when I found out about this faire because I used to live in Georgia. But guess what... it was over four hours away from where I lived. I think the Carolina faire would have been closer to my house than the Georgia one.
But I digress... this faire is Brian's home faire. And it's Maxx's home faire.
GARF 2010 You'll notice that there's a group of acrobats- Barely Balanced- that are in my photos of Bristol. They're awesome. I'm pretty sure that Bristol is considered Cameron's (aka "Medium" in Barely Balanced) home faire as he's from the Chicago area. But I digress...
My two favorite knights- Sir Maximilian and Sir Mauldron also do a comedy show. They're the gentlemen that dubbed me Lady Smelly this past summer. Maxx and Maul at GARF.
This next link is to this year's GARF photos. Brian is going back many times this season (which ends I think, in June), so check back for more photos.
Sir Maximilian and Sir Edgeron (I'm sure I spelled his name wrong). Trivia note- Edgeron is Maudron's son in real life. And the horse is Kilvarough, Maxx's trusty steed. And possibly one of the handsomest horses I've seen in a while.
Interestingly enough, through Brian's photos, I had two of my online worlds bump into each other. I know Brian solely because of ren faire photos. He had tagged some of Barely Balanced in his photos and I ended up sending him a message to tell him how much I liked them. Then we started talking. He sent me friend suggestions for the knights and the rest, as they say, is history.
Now, I frequent this board, a board for joint-replacement patients, a board for people with chronic pain, and the Snopes Urban Legends message board. (where I go by "FrogFeathers"). And while flipping through Brian's photos on Facebook, I stumbled upon a familiar face... From SNOPES!
In real life, he's Jonathan. I know his father better than I know him- which is what made me realize where I knew him from instead of just flipping past another "faire friend" as I went through the photos. On snopes, I know him by his screen name. And it was funny and surreal for me to stumble upon a snopester in a faire-friend's photos.
So, as you see, Bristol and TRF and Scarborough are just the tip of the iceberg for good faires. Chances are, you live near one. And if you aren't "into" faires like Angus or even like me, go in regular clothes. The cast of characters will interact with you more because you're a guest!
